The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has opened a new hostel that can accommodate 900 local and international students from 23 countries.

The Jockey Club Student Village II consists of three halls of residence - Morrison Hall, Lee Shau Kee Hall and Suen Chi Sun Hall.

Facilities include pantries, canteens, multi-purpose rooms and meeting rooms.

The construction of the new complex was sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, which also supported the Jockey Club Student Village I, opened in 2002.

The university said the hostel would help create a multi-cultural atmosphere on campus.

Living together with their counterparts of different nationalities, local students can organise activities with them and learn to co-operate with each other, HKU said.
