PolyU gets hi-tech complex
Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has named its newest building after Lee Shau-kee, in recognition of the entrepreneur's contribution to the university.
Mr Lee, chairman and managing director of Henderson Land Development, donated $45 million to PolyU, which enabled it to secure an equal amount from the government in the first phase of the Matching Grant Scheme.
The 14-storey Lee Shau Kee building is located at the northeast corner of PolyU's Hunghom campus.
The complex is equipped with advanced research facilities and laboratories with a high safety standard. This will help strengthen PolyU's research capability and improve its teaching techniques.
It also houses lecture theatres, conference rooms and a podium for recreational purposes.
At a ceremony on Monday where a commemorative plaque was unveiled, PolyU president Poon Chung-kwong announced that the university has raised $190 million in the second phase of the Matching Grant Scheme, with more than 60 per cent of the donations coming from the commercial and business sectors.
