MISSION: Impossible III, the latest instalment of the 1960s spy thriller series made popular in the 1990s by Tom Cruise, is pure escapist entertainment for summer.
Tom Cruise returns as secret agent Ethan Hunt on the Impossible Mission Force (IMF). This time, however, he retires from active duty to marry Julia (Michelle Monaghan), a doctor who knows nothing about his past.
But his peaceful days are shortlived as Davian, a sadistic arms dealer played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, kidnaps an IMF agent. Hunt is called in to help with the rescue mission, which ends in disaster.
Davian takes Julia hostage and forces Hunt to steal a secret weapon codenamed Rabbit's Foot. The heroic spy is torn between love and duty.
Questioning where his loyalties lie is about as deep as the movie gets. But what it lacks in brain power it makes up for in action - there's a fight, kung fu stunt, explosion, car chase or helicopter hunt every 10 minutes to keep your eyes glued to the screen.
While the story makes little sense, you get to watch eccentric multimillionaire Cruise jumping off buildings with the expression of a man losing one more of his extremities.
