General information

The museum, opened  in October 1980, was the first of its kind in Hong Kong  and

was aimed at promoting astronomy and space science among the public. It has two thematic exhibition halls - the Hall of Space Science and the Hall of Astronomy -  with mostly interactive exhibits.  Each year, the museum produces two multimedia  shows and screens the popular  Omnimax films at its unique Space Theatre.

Admission fee

For Omnimax shows

Standard: $24 (front stalls), $32 (stalls)

Concessionary: $12 (front stalls), $16 (stalls)

Concessions are applicable to full-time students, people with disabilities and  those aged 60 or above

Children under three will not be admitted

For school shows

Student: $16

For exhibition halls

Standard: $10

Concessionary: $5

Weekly pass: $30

Free admission for children under four, but they must be accompanied by an adult

Opening hours

1pm-10 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday;

10am-9pm on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

Closes at 5pm on Christmas Eve and Lunar New Year's Eve.

Closed on Tuesday and the first two days of the Lunar

New Year.

Special programmes

The museum organises  many activities, including the monthly  'Night Sky' programme at the Space Theatre, Astronomy Happy Hours, fun science lab, astronomy competitions, lectures and film shows.
