The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (DVD)
Review by Justin Ling, Liu Po Shan Memorial College
The Return of the King is the final chapter in the amazing Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The Dark Lord wants to get back the Ring and rule the world, but the fellowship fights against him. Frodo (Elijah Wood), the Ring Bearer, travels across treacherous enemy lands with Sam (Sean Astin) and Gollum (Andy Serkis) to throw the Ring into the fire of Mount Doom.
Gollum is controlled by the Ring and has spent his whole life seeking it. His desire for the Ring is so strong that he becomes a slave to it. Every day for him is painful and nothing but the Ring can cheer him up. Eventually, he grabs the Ring as he falls into the fires of Mount Doom with it, and he dies while clutching it.
This film reflects real life. Like Gollum, someone who's greedy for fortune and power and spends all their life seeking it will, in the end, have nothing. But someone who is satisfied with what they have will treasure their life, like Sam. Sam is always loyal to Frodo even when Frodo falls for Gollum's conspiracy and doesn't trust him.
