Woman injured in ferry incident

Updated at 4.56pm: An elderly woman was injured after a ferry carrying her rammed onto a shore on Lantau Island on Friday afternoon.

The incident took place about 1pm when the First Ferry carrying 81 passengers and five sailors were heading for Mui Wo on Lantau from Central.

Local TV reported that the front part of the ferry rammed onto a shore at Man Kok Tsui. Holes were drilled into the ferry in the collision.

Firemen were called in to take passengers and crews on board to shore.

The injured 87-year-old woman, who hurt her head, has been discharged from hospital after having had stitches.

The Marine Department said it was investigating the cause of the incident.
