Truck hijackers flee with 1,800 mobile phones
A gang hijacked a truck and escaped with $1.8 million worth of Samsung mobile phones in Kwai Chung. The truck was travelling along Kwai Tak Street late on Monday night when a man dashed out in front of it, forcing the driver to stop. Five or six accomplices who had been waiting in two vans punched the driver and his assistant and dragged them out of the truck, police said. The victims were tied, gagged and blindfolded and forced into one of the vans. The gang drove the three vehicles for about 1km and pulled over in Kwai Yuen Street. The victims were returned to the truck before the gang fled in the vans. The two men managed to free themselves and called police.
boy, 10, held by police after chopping attack
A 10-year-old boy was being held for questioning at Cheung Sha Wan police station last night after allegedly chopping his mother. The alleged attack happened after the boy, who recently arrived from the mainland, returned to the family's flat in Fuk Wa Street, Cheung Sha Wan, after school at about 4.30pm. A police spokeswoman said the boy became upset because he wanted to play computer games in his sister's bedroom but she had locked the door to do homework. The boy allegedly got a knife and attacked his 41-year-old mother. She was treated for arm injuries at Caritas Medical Centre.
15 injured, four seriously, in two traffic accidents
Fifteen people were injured, four seriously, in two traffic accidents. Ten men, including three male drivers, were sent to Tuen Mun and North District hospitals after three cars collided in Tsing Tin Road, Tuen Mun, at 1.30pm. Four were in serious condition last night and the others were stable. Shortly before 4pm, a car and taxi collided in the New Territories-bound lane of the Tsing Ma Bridge. The two drivers and three passengers from the car were injured and taken to hospital.
