Hainan Meilan International Airport in Haikou saw a 9 per cent drop in passenger numbers last month due to competition from the Sanya Phoenix Airport. Passenger throughput fell to 572,300, from 630,300 a year ago. Aircraft movements fell 7.5 per cent to 4,656. Cargo volume dipped 4 per cent to 9,298 tonnes.
