Island Shangri-La is happy to play host
FOR CLOSE ON a decade, the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong has been the lead sponsor of the awards presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong Management Association's Best Annual Reports Awards. The hotel provides the venue and the refreshments for the occasion.
Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong's association with the HKMA began in 1997, when the hotel was awarded the association's Quality Award, which recognises outstanding standards of quality in an organisation and its commitment to quality management.
The Best Annual Reports Awards are part of a host of HKMA programmes designed to enhance management effectiveness and efficiency in Hong Kong, said Franz Donhauser, general manager of the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong.
'Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, the largest Asian-based deluxe hotel group in the region, embodies these principles and has earned international awards and recognition from guests and prestigious magazines as well as industry partners,' Mr Donhauser said.
The HKMA's ideals and mission complement the hotel's guiding principles, which are reflected in its day-to-day operations, he added.
Besides its involvement in the Best Annual Reports Awards, the hotel is active in other areas that demonstrate its commitment to quality and social responsibility, Mr Donhauser said.
The hotel is a strong believer in environment protection, and includes an Environmental Vision Statement in all its job descriptions.
In 1993, the hotel set up a Green Committee to identify ways to reduce wastage in the hotel, eradicate environment-damaging practices and promote environment awareness among staff.
Four years later, the Island Shangri-La became the first hotel in the Asia-Pacific region to earn ISO 14001 certification in recognition of its environmental efforts. The certificate was renewed in 2000.
