Promising athletes win scholarship for Beijing

Six promising Hong Kong athletes have been awarded 28-month scholarships by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity.

The financial assistance is a boost to their preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The six local scholarship holders - Tang Yik-chun from the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, Law Hiu-fung from the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association, Wong Fai from Hong Kong Shooting Association, Sze Hang-yu from the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association, Li Ching from the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association and Ho Chi-ho from the Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong.

This is the third time for Law, and second time for Ho, to receive direct funding support from the IOC.

Law was supported before he went to the 2002 Busan Asian Games, and 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Ho went to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

Each of them will receive US$1,000 per month from May 2006 until August 2008 through their respective NSAs.
