Coping with the heat and humidity of Kuala Lumpur will be among the challenges awaiting the Hong Kong team, who are bidding to win the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-15 Elite Cup this week.
Adapting to the conditions will be the key, said coach Imran Idrees, who is confident his 14-member squad can bring home the coveted trophy from Malaysia.
'The boys have made good progress in training over the past three months, and I'm sure that we will do well, but the heat will be a factor,' said Idrees.
The competition will feature the strongest eight Asian teams, other than Test-playing nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and runs from this Friday to June 8.
Hong Kong qualified for the tournament after finishing among the top eight teams in the first ACC under-15 competition in Dubai last year. Afghanistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates - the other seven quarter-finalists last year - will also be taking part in Malaysia.
Idrees said his team is ready and will be contenders to win the Cup.
'They all have the skills to win. They just need experience in tournaments like this to move forward,' he said.
