Two men arrested in a police sting that netted more than 10,000 of what they thought were Ecstasy tablets have been jailed for six years.

Tommy Cheung Mo-kit, 36, and Rick Poon Wai-kit, 28, pleaded guilty in the Court of First Instance to one count each of trafficking in a dangerous drug after being caught trying to sell 10,335 tablets of the party drug to undercover police on October 4.

The court heard that police, acting on a tip that Cheung was dealing in Ecstasy, arranged a meeting with him at a Mongkok restaurant early on October 5. At that meeting Cheung, who identified himself as 'Ah Man', offered to sell 10,000 tablets of the drug for $16 each to the officer.

It was decided that the drugs would be placed in an unspecified location, the details of which would be disclosed only to the undercover officer upon Cheung's receiving the correct amount of cash. The deal was set for the following day.

On the deal day, a surveillance team saw Cheung walking with Poon. They were tailed for about four hours before they jumped into a taxi.

Cheung got out first, while Poon continued towards Austin Road, where he entered the Kowloon Park swimming pool carrying a backpack. Inside the pool complex, Poon hired two lockers, placing the backpack in one and personal belongings in another.
