Smarter assistant Personal digital assistants are cool again, thanks to Hewlett-Packard. Asia's leading supplier of PDAs has updated its venerable iPaq handheld device, resulting in the rw6828 Multimedia Messenger. In white or metallic silver, the new iPaq PDA camera phone integrates more connectivity modes than previous models. It offers tri-band GSM, GPRS, Edge, infrared, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. It runs Microsoft's new Windows Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition operating system, so users can be productive on the road with a full suite of applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It also has dual-stereo speakers, a 2-megapixel camera, FM radio and PocketMusic MP3 Player function. The iPaq rw6828 Multimedia Messenger costs $5,280.

Business tool Sony Ericsson has gone corporate with its soon-to-be-released Z710i clamshell camera phone. Available in black or metallic sand casing, the elegantly designed handset works on both EDGE and GPRS cellular networks. It comes with a two-megapixel camera, internal and external displays, 10-megabyte user memory, push-to-talk and instant messaging functions, media player, FM radio, 3D games, Adobe picture view program and select personal computer synchronisation tools. The Sony Ericsson Z710i will be released in the third quarter of this year.
