Hunt on after man leaps from Tsing Ma Bridge
An air and sea search was under way last night for a taxi driver who was believed to have jumped off the Tsing Ma Bridge.
Tsui Tak-on stopped his taxi on the airport-bound lanes on the bridge at about 3.30pm and was seen climbing over the railings, police said. He left a suicide note in the taxi.
Staff from the bridge management company saw him on a surveillance camera and called police.
A Government Flying Service helicopter, Marine Police launches and fireboats were involved in the search, a police spokesman said.
In a separate case, a schoolgirl, 16, fell to her death from a 30th-floor unit in Sheung Lai House, Wah Lai Estate on Lai King Hill Road, Lai Chi Kok at about 2.30pm.
Police said the Form Three student returned home at about 2pm after school and had a dispute with her mother over her conduct and academic performance.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old autistic man plunged to his death from a staircase landing in Choi Tin House, Hing Tin Estate, Lam Tin, at about 5am yesterday. The case is believed to be a suicide.
And in another incident, police talked a suicidal man down from the roof of a residential block in Western after a three-hour standoff.
Police and fire officers were despatched to Tat Ka Building in Connaught Road Central at about 11.30pm on Sunday after the man, 21, called police saying he had serious money and work-related problems and wanted to commit suicide.
