CENTRE Geoff Piper scored 30 points to lead Hong Kong's Developing players to a 35-28 victory over Taiwan last night at Happy Valley.
Piper scored a try and kicked two conversions and seven penalties as the territory's second-string side overcame Taiwan, whose poor disciplinary display overshadowed their four first-half tries.
Taiwan, drubbed 70-0 by Hong Kong's national team on Tuesday, gave away nine penalties to Piper, who put on the best place-kicking show so far seen this season.
Local skipper Sam Cartmell scored Hong Kong's other try.
Taiwan coach Fang Wu-jen felt his team, bolstered by four players who were unavailable on Tuesday, could have won the match if they had not given away so many penalties and had converted their own chances.
Meanwhile, national coach George Simpkin will give Valley winger Jeremy Smith his debut for Hong Kong against Taiwan in the second and final full international tomorrow at Happy Valley.
