A Hunan television presenter has publicly apologised for appearing topless with two other women in an advertisement to raise awareness of female health.
Chen Dan, a presenter with Changsha TV's Women's Channel, issued a signed apology on the network's website on Monday for posing for photos which appeared at bus stops and on billboards.
Chen was suspended from her job last Friday, but no action has been taken against another TV presenter, Xin Jing, who also posed topless for the campaign. The third woman was 'Lisa', a student from the Philippines.
The campaign was organised by activists trying to promote awareness of health, self-esteem and inner beauty among college students and office women.
But some critics said the topless advertisements were simply trashy commercials for the women's hospital which was sponsoring the campaign.
Ya Ya, a 23-year-old feminist in Changsha who devised the campaign, said: 'We wanted to use the brash advertisement to improve self-awareness in a society which devalues the intrinsic worth of young women by focusing on their physical appearance and materialism.'
