Housing secretary banks on rent-review support

Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands Michael Suen Ming-yeung yesterday staked his reputation on pushing the public housing rent review system through the Legislative Council. 'If I can't convince legislators to support the flexible rent-review mechanism, it will be a very big failure of mine,' he said, refusing to give in to calls for a general rent cut first. More than 30 public housing tenants protested outside Legco before the meeting, demanding a rent cut and more time for public consultation.
