As Hong Kong's hospitality industry booms, the IT demands for the sector are also on the rise. Hotels are expected to provide instant technical support to the back office and room guests because tourists and business travellers are increasingly using devices such as notebook computers and digital video cameras. As a result, hospitality providers are looking for IT professionals who are focused not only on technology but also on customer service. The City Garden Hotel in North Point, a subsidiary of the Sino Group, needs an experienced IT manager who is also sociable. The right candidate will be responsible for deploying information technology to enhance the hotel's competitiveness. The manager should ideally have the technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to support the hotel's IT systems and provide end-user training. In addition to supporting critical accounting, purchasing and inventory control systems, the manager's responsibilities will include evaluating and customising new software solutions to improve existing applications and services. 'This is a challenging opportunity not just limited to back-office applications but extending to evaluate the services we provide to our guests, such as in-room media centres, web radio and internet TV,' said Ernest Yu, group IT manager for the hotel. The ideal candidate will be a practical manager who can think creatively. An IT graduate with at least five years of experience in the hotel industry, including three years in a supervisory role, is preferred.
