A 'hysterical' tourist who bit a policewoman and fled after being arrested for shoplifting was jailed for five months yesterday. Colombian Beatriz Taborda Restrepo, 29, was arrested at the airport a week after her escape, Eastern Court heard. Restrepo pleaded guilty to theft, assaulting an officer and escaping from lawful custody. She was arrested on June 7 for stealing nine bracelets from a Wan Chai shop, the court heard. She was sitting handcuffed in a police van in Luard Road beside policewoman Cheung Yee-shan when she suddenly headbutted the officer, bit her forearm and ran. Police were tipped off on June 13 and intercepted the defendant at the airport check-in. She confessed and told police she had dumped the handcuffs in a rubbish bin in Kowloon, the court was told.
