Reiterating policy of non-interference, he says nations can handle own issues
Premier Wen Jiabao yesterday defended China's interest in African oil and rejected suggestions that Beijing was carrying out 'new colonialism' on the continent.
Ending his visit to Egypt - the first leg of a seven-nation tour that analysts say is driven by China's thirst for resources - Mr Wen said Beijing's efforts to boost ties with Africa and Latin America were not targeted at any third country.
'Our attempts and efforts to develop relations are not directed at entering into any alliance and will not compromise the interests of any other countries,' he said. 'I'm confident that the US government also recognises this.'
Mr Wen added that China would never promote 'new colonialism', as the mainland had experienced hardship under colonialism after the opium war.
'China knows too well that we must fight against colonialism,' he said.
