The drivers' union apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of yesterday's industrial action but commuters said there was none of the chaos that was predicted. Traffic in Wan Chai and Mongkok remained generally smooth during the union's work-to-rule protest between 10am and noon. Motor Transport Workers General Union spokesman Lam Shun-ping said 6,000 drivers took part in the protest. It involved drivers waiting until passengers were seated before setting off, stopping at every bus stop and not pulling away from a bus stop until the bus in front had left. They were also supposed to drive in the slow lane, but many drivers didn't. One passenger, Miss Leung, who took Citybus route 70 to Central, said the action had little impact. 'My trip did not take extra time ... service was as usual.'
