Jasmine Women (Putonghua) (IIA): A tale of three generations of women in a Shanghai family, the film features Zhang Ziyi, Joan Chen and Jiang Wen. Hou Yong directs this sumptuous epic, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Shanghai Film Festival 2004, based on the novel Woman's Life by Su Tong. LKW

Mistress of Spices (IIA): Aishwarya Rai plays an Indian immigrant in San Francisco who runs a spice store and has magical powers - which she is in danger of losing after falling for an American (Dylan McDermott). Paul Mayeda Berges directs this sensual love story laden with cultural themes. LKW
