A registry of doctors providing primary care will be launched by the Medical Association in November to match the government's 'one person, one doctor' policy.

The association's president, Choi Kin, said the registry would provide information - including charges, types of service and business hours - about primary doctors in 18 districts.

'If patients have a family doctor they trust, they will not waste time shopping for doctors and doing unnecessary medical investigations. The medical cost will go down,' Dr Choi said.

'Some doctors in public hospitals also have problems in referring their patients to the private sector. We hope that our new primary doctors registry can help.'

Under Medical Council rules, doctors can disseminate information about five types of services and charges.

'Some doctors may be more interested in elderly care, some in mood disorders - patients need more information like that to make their choices.' Dr Choi said.
