Tuesdays with Morrie is about an old man, a young man and life's greatest lesson. The book is about the writer's relationship with his former college professor, Maurice Schwartz, or Morrie. The author had lost touch with him but re-established contact when he heard that Morrie was dying. It is a sad book because Morrie does not have long to live, but it is also very uplifting and inspiring because of the dignity and courage with which the professor faces death. Albom records the insights and advice that Morrie gives along the way. When he meets Morrie again, Albom is a successful journalist. He rushes around the world reporting on big events and works long hours. He has everything a man could possibly want: a successful career, fame and money. But he has no time to stop and think about the things that are really important to him. He does not feel satisfied with his life. Morrie tells Albom that he is spending his life chasing what he wants rather than what he needs. He is chasing after fame and wealth, but he does not need those things for a happy and satisfying life. Morrie says satisfaction comes from 'offering others what you have to give'. The gratitude and respect that people you help give you is the best reward. Also, the professor tells the young man that a loving relationship is one of the keys to happiness in life. But sadly, in modern society, a lot of relationships fail because the person does not understand themselves enough to understand their partner. As Morrie comes near to the end of his life, he realises what's important and passes that on to Albom. Albom's life changes after meeting with Morrie. I really enjoyed the book because it made me sit down and think about my dreams and goals in life. Hong Kong is a very materialistic society and people rush through life without thinking about the really important things. Teenagers focus on their studies while adults bury themselves in work. But is that what life is all about? We should take a break from our work and think about what we really want in life. We should think about other people in this world and what we can do to help them. We can make other people happy and, in turn, make ourselves happy. Love is one of the greatest gifts in life. There is a saying, 'To give is better than to receive'. I find it very true. When you help someone or love someone, you feel very happy deep down inside. Don't be afraid to pursue your dreams and seek true happiness. Pay attention to the small things in life. Cherish your loved ones. There's a lot more to life than fame and money.
