GERALD Mosse looks a very significant booking for the Lawrie Fownes-trained Innovation in the final event. Last season Innovation consistently returned speed figures good enough to win this. He could never really get into the race on his first two outings this season but he returned a much-improved figure last time out suggesting that he was poised to hit top form. Besides the booking of Mosse, who has a fine record for Fownes, Innovation also has the weights in his favour. He competes from a mark a pound lower than from which he won on his fourth start of last season. Bruce Hutchison's Spirits Bay (Next Best) should also take a considerable amount of beating in the third event. He ran really well when fourth to Grey Linnet last time out at Happy Valley, producing his best speed figure of the season. Similar improvement should see him reproduce his best rating from last season and that should be good enough to win this Classes Three and Four event. Don't forget that when he was fourth to Grey Linnet last weekend over 2,400 metres at Happy Valley, he was running against Class Two and Three opposition. Today's event looks appreciably easier. Throw in Most Delighted for the quinella. He is also ridden by Gerald Mosse and put in one of the most eye-catching runs conceivable last time out.
