Premier Wen Jiabao yesterday reiterated the strategic importance of Africa as he concluded his marathon African tour.
'Africa is a continent that we should not overlook, and should strengthen our relations with,' Mr Wen told representatives of the Chinese community in Uganda on the last leg of his seven-nation trip.
Apart from economic co-operation and strengthening strategic partnerships, Mr Wen said another highlight of his tour was China's offer of assistance in Africa's medical and education sectors. He said he had also explained to African leaders China's objection to a proposal to expand membership of the UN Security Council.
'If this proposal could be realised, of course, we would support Africa as a member. But they shouldn't be divided by something that's not going to happen,' he said.Kristine Kwok
