Even if you did not perform well enough to get into your chosen discipline at university, don't give up.

The real-life example of Stella Lau Ching-yu shows there are many ways to succeed in life, a lesson she learned the hard way.

The first-year accounting student at Hong Kong Baptist University has just been awarded the Sanford Yung Scholars Award for Excellence in Accounting Studies.

She beat 34 other outstanding candidates from seven local universities to clinch the honour, which will give her a scholarship of $50,000 plus a valuable eight-week internship at prestigious accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers in London next summer.
