IT IS EASY to see why Chinese couples are increasingly opting for western or fusion wedding rituals. Traditional Chinese weddings are riddled with hard-to-remember rituals and ceremonies and they can also be expensive.
Planning a wedding is stressful enough, but when you add parental pressure and traditions into the mix the bride and groom are more likely to want a drive-through wedding Las Vegas-style.
Hong Kong-born, US-raised graphic designer Kester Lei, 31, was at loggerheads with his parents when he started to plan for his wedding.
'My fiancee and I originally wanted something casual and small ... something more western-influenced,' Mr Lei said.
But after revealing his plans to his parents, he was forced to reconsider.
'I never realised the importance of hosting a banquet as part of my wedding until my parents started to get upset that we weren't planning on having one,' he said.
