The centre, named Mr & Mrs Chan Hon Yin Modern Chinese Medicine Research and Service Centre, opened last week.

Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food York Chow Yat-ngok said at the opening ceremony that the centre would provide a new space for the collaboration of Chinese and western medicines.

It would also enable research in Chinese medicine to be carried out according to the latest information and with the appropriate use of advanced technology, Dr Chow said.

Occupying 9,000sq ft at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the centre will appoint six registered Chinese medicine practitioners to work alongside one family medicine doctor from the hospital.

The centre, expected to be in service from October, will let patients choose between receiving Chinese medical treatment or a collaborative consultation by specialists of integrative Chinese and Western medicine.
