A campus roof-top became a film-set when students put into practice what they had learnt from top film-makers at a new City University summer institute.
Leading teacher-practitioners from the Beijing Film Academy and the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television gave intensive group tuition to 50 students from CityU's School of Creative Media on the three-week course.
Art-director Professor Zhou Dengfu, teacher of Chinese film-makers Zhang Yimou and Chen Keige, was among those leading workshops in acting/directing, editing, cinematography, art-direction and sound.
Students followed workshops in one specialism and joined one of five film-making crews to make a short horror film or thriller using the skills they had learnt. The films will be submitted to international film festivals in Edinburgh, Rotterdam and Kyoto.
