Not doing enough

CONGRATULATIONS to Bill Leverett for his two recent letters drawing attention to another major hole in what passes for the Government's environmental ''policy''. My employer, though a relatively small organisation, is attempting to do something for the environment by, amongst other things, using recycled paper, although it raises our costs. How can the Government justify its surpluses every year, if it fails to take such simple action that could help encourage others to use recycled materials and generallyincrease awareness of the whole issue of environmental protection? If the Government is really committed to the environment, it should firstly ensure that it is better informed about the issues involved. It should also be more prepared to put its money where its mouth is, especially when it comes to actually doing something to help educate the community on these crucial issues.
