Makai Senki Disgaea (DVD)

Makai Senki Disgaea (Netherworld Battle Chronicle: Disgaea) is a 12-episode  anime produced by Oriental Light and Magic, whose previous works include Guyver The Bio-boosted Armour, To Heart 2 and Utawarerumono.

Disgaea is based on the PlayStation 2 role-playing video game  created by Nippon Ichi Software Inc. The game was an international hit.

The story revolves around Laharl, crown prince of the Netherworld. He is woken from a two-year slumber by the apprentice angel Flonne, who has been sent by heaven to assassinate his father, King Krichevskoy.

Flonne and Laharl discover that King Krichevskoy has been dead for the last two years.  Laharl is overjoyed at the news of his father's demise and leaves the family cemetery hurriedly to claim his birthright.

Along the way, Laharl and Flonne meet Captain Gordon and his two sidekicks, the scantily clad  bombshell Jennifer and a Robbie the Robot lookalike called Thursday. They have travelled from the human realm to fight demons.

Laharl is also reunited with one of his former castle attendants, Etna, a female demon. She has an entourage of penguin servants called 'Prinny', who have little bat wings and wooden peg legs. But Etna has dark plans of her own. What are they? What is her ultimate agenda?

Dismayed at  how violent and callous Laharl is,  Flonne decides to follow Laharl until he accepts love in his heart. But Laharl will only  accept Flonne as his servant.  Thus the journey to claim the throne of the Netherworld begins.

This is a  cute and entertaining anime that parents and children can enjoy together. With only 12 episodes, it can be watched in one go  with a large bowl of popcorn.
