The Small Faces
Ogden's Nut Gone Flake
(Sanctuary)
It's possible to wonder to what extent certain great albums of the 1960s owe their status to their sleeves. Certainly, they were more than incidental to Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Tommy and Ogden's Nut Gone Flake.
The tobacco tin-inspired sleeve of the latter has been taken to its logical conclusion with the new, deluxe reissue by Sanctuary of the original Immediate Records album.
Three discs now come in an actual tin - the album in stereo and mono mixes, and a third disc of a BBC Radio One documentary on the making of it.
The third disc makes fascinating listening, particularly since it includes interview tapes of Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriott, both sadly deceased, as well as keyboardist Ian McLagan and drummer Kenny Jones.
