The operator of the Lantau cable car says it has a timetable for opening the problem-plagued tourist attraction - but will not say what it is.

It says a series of tests need to be completed to ensure there will not be a repeat of the failure that left 500 invited guests stranded during a trial run on June 17, and that caused the opening, scheduled for June 24, to be postponed.

Skyrail-ITM's director of sales and marketing Susan Tse yesterday said the company had an 'internal schedule' for the opening.

'We are conducting tests with the manufacturer once again from the beginning and we need to do them step by step,' she said. 'Therefore, we cannot disclose the date of the opening at this stage.'

She said progress reports would be released to the public from time to time.

Trial runs of the cable car, part of the Ngong Ping 360 tourist attraction, would resume before the opening.

Island District Council vice-chairwoman Chau Chuen-heung said the public and councillors wanted an exact opening date.
