1,300 plants worth $2.26m seized along with growing paraphernalia at Kowloon premises

Police have shut down what they say is the city's biggest marijuana-cultivating factory, capable of producing up to 15kg of herbal cannabis and cannabis buds and earning at least $1.5 million a month.

Two local men, aged 46 and 55, were arrested when about 30 officers raided the 4,000 sq ft greenhouse in a factory in King Fuk Street, San Po Kong, on Tuesday.

Inside the unit, more than 1,300 marijuana plants and more than 1kg of cannabis buds were found. The seizure was worth about $2.26 million, according to police. The factory was fitted with about 100 sets of solar lights, a dozen air conditioners and 30 fans and timers, Chief Inspector Andrew Ko Shun-chi of the Narcotics Bureau said.

He said there were a number of cubicles at the site for cultivating the plants in their different growing phases and for packaging.

Officers also seized packaging equipment, electronic scales, about 100 bags of soil and several bottles of fertiliser.
