THE first CD-ROM to reveal some of China's most exotic geographic and cultural locations has won an award for superior digital design.
The Macintosh English version of Journey to the Source, which was released on November 30 by interactive multimedia communications company GRID Media Ltd, won the award at the recent MdN International Design Awards.
Journey to the Source is an audio-visual record of China explorer How Man-wong's 10-month quest to be the first person to establish the source of the Yangtze River in China's remote marshland basin of Kandgong.
The expedition, funded by the National Geographic Society, has been skilfully edited and crafted to let users absorb the story or explore 800 photographs and almost three hours of narration and video while gliding from subject to subject at any point along the river.
GRID Media has for years provided entertainment and information, including interactive exhibitions for the Hong Kong Science Museum.
Mr Wong is the founder and president of the China Exploration & Research Society.
