A 13-YEAR-OLD girl who lost a family game of cards was forced to watch her parents having sex and then have intercourse with her father, the High Court heard yesterday.

  The 43-year-old father had also asked his sons, aged 11 and 12, to have intercourse with their mother. Fearing they would be beaten, they had tried to do so.

  The brothers said they had seen their father having intercourse with their sister four times.

  The man, a New Territories delivery worker, admitted four counts of incest with his daughter and two counts of indecency with a child.

  Defence counsel described the offences as ''very, very sickening''.

  The mother denied two counts of aiding and abetting her husband to commit incest with her daughter and two of indecency with her sons. Senior Crown Counsel Catherine Fung offered no evidence and Mr Justice Saied acquitted the mother.

 The judge remanded the father in custody until December 28 for sentence.

  Dr Kelly Lai Yee-ching, a child psychiatrist at Prince of Wales Hospital, said: ''This type of experience is likely to have both emotional and behavioural effects on the children.

 ''When the abuse involves adolescent children they often becoming sexually promiscuous in later life, while their emotional relationship with their parents becomes very confused because they don't understand why this has been allowed to happen.''   Dr Lai said it was not unusual for both parents to be involved in the abuse of their children within an incestuous family. But she said it was over-simplifying the matter to blame only the father for the abuse.

  She added: ''Usually, the father already has a background of mental problems and the parents are not getting on, while he may have already shown a need to overpower the children.

  ''It is also quite likely that the parents were themselves abused as children.''   Counsel told the court the first offence occurred in January last year when the family was playing cards at home. The defendant suggested that the loser strip. The daughter lost and her brothers were sent from the room.

  The defendant asked his daughter to watch while he had intercourse with his wife, and then he had intercourse with his daughter, ignoring her cries of ''no''. She was allowed to leave after about one hour.

  In May and July last year, the daughter was again asked to strip and her father had intercourse with her against her will.

  Last Christmas Eve, the father was again playing cards with his children when he suggested that the loser had to strip. His daughter lost again and the boys were asked to leave. He then had intercourse with the girl, during which his wife came in and watched for about five minutes.

  The father also admitted that during 1992, after having intercourse with his wife, he asked his two sons to have intercourse with their mother.

  The court heard that they tried to do so because they were afraid they would be beaten up.

  When the father was arrested in January, he admitted the offences.

  Ms Fung said he had a clear record.

  Newman Wong, defence counsel, said while the case had some singular features, no violence had been used. He said all members of the family had been hurt and, apart from these few occasions, the defendant had been a loving father.
