The third series, to be presented by the centre and the Theatre Ensemble on August 6, is part of a year-long project to screen free animations from around the world and offer drama workshops. Three contemporary award-winning Chinese animators Zhou Keqin, Xu Jingda and Te Wei are featured.

Monkeys Fishing For The Moon (1981) is a 10-minute short film by Zhou, who has been directing paper-cut animations since 1975. The fable tells of a monkey troop chasing the moon through the forest. But they fight each other to claim credit for catching the moon in a pond.

The inspiration for Xu's short animation Three Monks (1980) is a Chinese proverb about selfishness and the importance of co-operation. It tells the tale of three monks who would rather be thirsty than help each other carry three buckets of water up a hill. It won a Silver Bear at the 1982 Berlin International Film Festival.

Feelings of Mountains and Waters (1988) is a masterpiece by Te, who introduced Chinese ink and wash painting into animation in 1960. The short film deals with Taoist philosphy and Chinese Buddhism beliefs in the story of a friendship between an old lute player and a boy.
