A CORONER yesterday expressed concern about the many pedestrians being killed in road accidents.

Coroner Rodney Venning warned pedestrians to be more aware of road safety.

The court heard that two boys were killed after they were knocked down in separate incidents in the New Territories. Verdicts of death by misadventure were recorded.

Mr Venning said about two-thirds of the 299 people killed on the roads last year, or 205 people, were pedestrians. He said people under 20 were the second largest group, following the over-60 group.

But he said the figures this year had decreased slightly with 196 pedestrian fatalities out of 293.

The court heard that Lau Kwok, 13, was killed after a car hit him in Cheung Pei Shan Road, Tsuen Wan, on May 6. He died three days later in Princess Margaret Hospital.
