MELCO IS COMMITTED to supporting charitable events and activities as part of its corporate social responsibility mandate. Since the Melco Volunteer Team was set up in 2004, company employees from all levels have taken part in a variety of charitable events. The first was the Community Chest's Run Up Two IFC Charity Race in 2004. Since then, the team has worked closely with the Community Chest and been involved in many of its events, including the Walk for Million, Soccer King Charity Match, Planting Day, Treasure Hunt Corporate Challenge and charity visits. Last year, Melco donated $1million to victims of the December 2004 tsunami at the 'Cross Borders Fundraising Show'. Donations came from company employees. Melco is also active in volunteerism, and has set up a team which has worked with NGOs such as the United Nations Children's Fund, Orbis, the World Wide Fund For Nature and many others. From this month, Melco will launch a bi-monthly 'volunteer works and charity visit' programme, in which its volunteers will regularly engage with the broader community through charitable works. Melco will also host a training scheme that will teach employees how to assist physically handicapped children.
