A key function of the original Sony Walkman was that you could take music with you when you went for a jog. Since then, there have been more and more music players that are specially designed for people who like to be active.
Despite falling behind the likes of Philips and more recently, the Nike/iPod combo, Sony has launched a player that might partially restore the company's position in the portable music player race.
The new NW-S203 and NW-E205 offer 1GB and 2GB of memory and are easily portable. They come complete with a built-in armband.
Like most new Sony players, the models don't come with a colour display, but instead have a dark screen with light lettering.
The new players also use the knob control that was introduced with the miniature bottle-like NW-E505 for easy access to the device's functions.
But it is what is inside the two new models that reveal their intentions. A so-called G-Sensor, that can sense the device's motion, allows you to turn the players into pedometers for measuring how far you have run.
