African snacks and South African wines are the focus of today's Ficofi wine event at the Nzingha Lounge in Central. Wines including Tall House Shiraz 2003, Douglas Green Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 and the 2005 vintage of Culemborg Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc will be served with dishes such as spicy shrimp in dough, fried plantain and rolls stuffed with pork and vegetables.

The Celestial Court at the Sheraton Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui is featuring mushrooms from the mainland until August 27. Executive chef Chan Sui-kei is using 24 types of mushrooms from Yunnan province, incorporating them in dishes such as roasted lamb chops with yellow porcini and spinach, deep-fried purple porcini with chilli, sauteed string beans with deep-fried termite mushrooms and sauteed shrimp with chanterelle mushrooms on steamed egg white. If you like the rich taste of Wagyu beef, head to the Airport Izakaya restaurant in the Regal Airport hotel at Chek Lap Kok, which has a Wagyu teppanyaki set menu for HK$728 plus 10 per cent for two. The meal includes chopped toro salad with walnuts, sushi and sashimi, deep-fried pork chop and a choice for main course of grilled Australian Wagyu or grilled lobster. Cafe Marco at the Marco Polo Hongkong hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui is featuring Japanese dishes on its dinner buffet until the end of August. Dishes include fresh fruit and seafood salad with green tea mayonnaise, roast rack of lamb with sesame, char-grilled teriyaki marinade salmon with mango relish, and desserts of chestnut cheese-cake with green tea (left), tofu cheesecake and sweet potato and peach pudding with sesame.
