A male secondary school teacher lured two girls to his flat then molested them while supposedly telling their fortunes, a court heard yesterday. Tai Yuk-fai, who is now unemployed, was a maths teacher at Kwun Tong Maryknoll College. He admitted that on May 5 he invited a 17-year-old girl he counselled to his flat to talk about the school's extracurricular activities. She agreed to visit him on the next night and brought two friends - the other victim, aged 18, and a boy. Stressing that privacy was crucial during the fortune-telling session, Tai conducted two separate sessions with each victim while the other two friends left the apartment for meal or a walk. Once alone with the girls, he pulled up their tops and pulled down their underwear before fondling them. After the attacks the two victims were in a state of shock and did not immediately react to the assaults. But when they discussed the incident, one girl decided to complain to her teacher, who brought the matter to the attention of the school's principal and lodged a report. The principal interviewed Tai, who at first denied the accusations, but subsequently got down on his knees and begged for another chance. Tai, who pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault, was remanded in custody. Kwun Tong Court heard that Tai had been teaching for more than 10 years and had been seeking medical treatment for chronic depression. Acting Principal Magistrate Amanda Woodcock adjourned the case to August 16 pending background, psychology and psychiatric reports before passing sentence on Tai.
