Nineteen-year-old Michael Yu has been following a gruelling fitness regime and spending hours in front of the mirror gelling his hair. He's not vain, he's getting set to play the role of Danny in the musical, Grease.

Michael will star alongside 97 other young performers aged nine to 21. The show is supported by a crew of backstage technicians aged 13 to 21.

The students are now taking part in an intensive three-week training session with director Terence Chang Thomp-kwan and choreographer Frankie Ho Ching-yu. The programme was organised by the Summer Musical School of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (APA).

Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease debuted on Broadway in 1972. The film version was released in 1978, making Travolta and Olivia Newton-John household names.

This classic tale of love and the need to belong is set in the late 1950s. It follows the highs and lows of a group of secondary school students.
