Q What should be done with Lantau's wild cattle?

'They lock horns in narrow alleys and charge all over the place. It is like we are in the middle of a Spanish bull run. They block roads, knock people off their bicycles, leave their faeces everywhere' (Post, August 10).

What absolute balderdash. I have a small flat over in Tai Tei Tong, at the back of Mui Wo, which I use at weekends and holidays. The only real problem with the cows is a bit of poo, but that is basically just processed grass. If the cows really do need to be moved (I am not keen on this as they are delightful beasts), I suggest we adopt Sally Bunker's plan and set aside some ground where they can do their thing without disrupting the locals.

As for Professor Billy Hau's comments, if sterilisation is the option for those causing environmental damage on Lantau, then surely the human offenders will be forming queues around the block at Queen Mary Hospital, waiting for the appropriate treatment.

I agree with the villagers. The animals have many germs on them that could be dangerous. Green groups think they are good for eco education, so I suggest we build a wildlife zoo instead. This would enable us to satisfy both sides. Many villages are suffering rural decay, whereas in the past when there was mixed land use, animals and humans lived together. The government should pay close attention to this and not just focus on inner-city problems.
