Be sure that you can be a responsible pet owner

I'm writing in response to the letter 'Think twice before getting a pet' (Young Post, July 29).

It is important to think twice, and see if we would be able to cope when our pets die.

But we also have to decide if we are responsible enough to care for a pet.

I think we must think a third time before we get a pet. Hong Kong people are busy. But pet owners have to spend a lot of time with their pets.

Many owners get bored of their pets very quickly. If you're thinking of getting a pet, you have to be willing to look after it until it dies.

If you think you can be a responsible pet owner, go to the SPCA. They have many pets who need good homes.
