HK girls make a splash

HONG Kong dominated the girls' events in the secondary section by winning six gold at the Schools Interport Competition held recently in Morrison Hill Swimming Pool.

Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong and Fuzhou contested keenly for the top honours in both the secondary and primary sections. Guangdong showed their class as their swimmers collected 16 gold, 16 silver and nine bronze medals.

Hong Kong emerged victorious in the girls' secondary section as they came first in six of the eight events.

The territory's best performer was Lau King-ting, who took two gold in the 200-metre individual medley and 50 m butterfly with respective winning times of 2 minutes 31.79 seconds and 30.4 sec.

Despite being beaten into second place in the 100 m breaststroke, Hong Kong's Hui Mei-ki turned the tables on her counterpart from Guangdong in the 50 m breaststroke with a winning time of 36.38 sec.

In the 50 m backstroke, Hong Kong's Lee Mei-ling captured another gold for the territory, beating the Guangdong representative by 0.5 of a second.
