A group of Hong Kong secondary students went to Beijing last week to learn about the country's foreign policy.
The one-week study tour was led by Ma Fung-kwok, a member of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, and included a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
The 30 students met top MFA officials, including the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yang Jiechi .
The group also visited the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council and the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC). They attended a flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square and took part in an exchange with students at Tsinghua University. They also visited the Capital Museum. The activities aimed to help them learn about the Basic Law and the principle of 'one country, two systems'.
The 30 students were winners of The Best Game Booth Award of the Inter-school Basic Law Game Booth Design Competition, jointly organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and the Education and Manpower Bureau this year.
The free study tour to Beijing was one of the prizes they won.
