Named after the traditional Japanese theatre art to which its design pays homage, Kabuki Lounge in Lan Kwai Fong is decorated in dramatic golds, blacks and reds. The new restaurant, which occupies the space once filled by Hachi, boasts chef Leung Kam-sing, who's been cooking Japanese food for more than 20 years. The food is intended to be 'fun and interesting', according to a spokesman for Kabuki's owner, Epicurean Group, and this is illustrated by its signature dishes, which include fried chicken with yuzu (HK$68) and Kabuki roll (middle right; HK$108), which contains salmon and vegetables, and comes with curry, green tea and grapefruit salt dips. Other dishes include seasonal greens with light crab miso dressing (bottom right; HK$58) and hand rolls (top right) with combinations such as (from left) wasabi and scallop (HK$70), taraba crab with toro and avocado (HK$90), and sea eel with asparagus (HK$60). The menu lists more than 150 dishes and 200 drinks. DJs spin tunes at the weekend.
Kabuki Lounge is open from noon to 1am, Monday to Thursday, and from noon to 4am, Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant has two entrances: 8/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street and 55 D'Aguilar Street, Central, tel: 2523 3006.
