Late war veteran Jack Edwards, a Welshman, was long a supporter of male choirs. Thus, this weekend's Festival of Welsh Music will be something of an honorary tribute to the former performer and patron of the Welsh Male Voice Choir. The concert, at 7.30pm on Saturday at St John's Cathedral in Central, will be a joint performance by the local troupe and the 52-strong Melody Music Comrades in Arms Choir from England. Hong Kong is the last stop of their first concert tour of China, following shows in Shanghai, Beijing and Xian earlier this month. The choral concert will feature 20 popular pieces sung in Welsh, English and even Swahili. Go figure. Each choir will primarily perform alone, although they will also sing six selections together. Part of the proceeds will go to the St John's Cathedral HIV Education Centre. Admission is a minimum donation of HK$250. For more information, telephone 2966-7845.
